Hsin-Ying Chen
Saxophone
Hung-Yu, Chen is a saxophonist from Taiwan. Born in Kaohsiung in 1997. He began his private piano lessons at the age of 5 and gave his first public performance at 7. and hHe also started to learn the recorder until 10. When he was 11, he joined the elementary school wind band and started to play the saxophone, which he continues to learn and play now.
When he was 13, he started his private saxophone lessons with Sie- Jheng, Liang. He is also a motivated wind band player. In 2012, he performed went to with the Kaohsiung City Wind Band at the National Music Hall, which is the most prestigious musical concert hall in Taiwan., National Music Hall, with Kaohsiung city wind band. Besides this, he went to Hong Kong with Kaohsiung Citizen wWind bBand and gave concerts and interacted with some musicians in Hong Kong.
In 2018, he started his bachelor's degree in music with Prof. Po-Fang, Chang at the National Kaohsiung Normal University (NKNU). He is well-known as the first saxophonist who studied at university in Kaohsiung. During his studies, he won the NKNU Concerto Competition and performed J. Ibert: Concertino de Camera with NKNU Symphony Orchestra conducted by Prof. Chang, Wang in Kaohsiung Cultural Center. In March 2021, he won the 1st prize in the National Taiwan Music Competition and finished his bachelor's degree in June.
In September 2021, Hung-Yu Chen started studying towards his master's degree at the Sibelius Academy of the University of the Arts Helsinki in Finland with famous saxophonist, Joonatan Rautiola. In 2022, he was invited to give concerts with the Siba Saxophone Ensemble in the Nordic Saxophone Festival.
