Ya-Hsin Chen
Clarinet
Ya-Hsin Chen majored in clarinet and is proficient in its family of instruments. Throughout her development, she studied under several renowned teachers, including Ching-Hua Wu, Yi-Fang Su, Kaini Liu, Ya-Ching Cheng, Hwei-Chi Yang, Lucy Chuang, Ti Huang, and Wei-Leng Chen. During her university years, she focused on chamber music courses and studied under Rong-Yi Liu, Hui-Ping Chung, and Mei-Chun Chen, while actively participating in her school’s orchestra and wind ensemble performances.
She graduated from the Department of Music at Tunghai University and later earned a master's degree in the performance program at Soochow University's Department of Music. During her studies, she frequently served as the principal clarinetist for the Tunghai University Orchestra, the Tunghai University Wind Ensemble, and the Soochow University Wind Ensemble. She also held several solo recitals, showcasing her solid technical skills and profound musicality. In 2010, she won first prize in the collegiate solo competition at the Taichung City Student Music Competition.
After graduation, she took on an administrative position with the Taipei Wind Orchestra & Symphonic Band, working alongside Yui-Biau Hou for four years, and served as the clarinet section coach for the Taipei Municipal Nanmen Junior High School Wind Ensemble. In 2014, she joined the Taipei Wind Orchestra & Symphonic Band, and in 2017, she was accepted into the Taipei Symphonic Winds. In 2019, she was admitted to the NTSO Taiwan Youth Symphony Orchestra and the NTSO Taiwan Wind Ensemble. In 2021, she returned to her hometown, Kaohsiung, and in 2024, she was accepted into the Kaohsiung City Wind Orchestra.
Throughout her performing career, she has collaborated extensively with leading domestic orchestras, including the National Symphony Orchestra, the National Taiwan Symphony Orchestra, and the Kaohsiung Symphony Orchestra. In 2022, she performed with conductor Kuokman Lio in the National Taiwan Symphony Orchestra’s concert "The Elegance, Romance, and Sorrow of Strauss," playing Richard Strauss's "Der Rosenkavalier Suite" and Mahler's Symphony No. 10. These experiences not only deepened her expertise in the bass clarinet but also earned her high praise from the conductor.
