Yi-Chia Chen
Percussion
Yi-Chia Chen received her Master’s degree and Doctor of Musical Arts in Percussion Performance from Arizona State University, where she studies with Dr. JB Smith, Dr. Mark Sunkett and Simone Mancuso.
She was the first-prize winner of 2009 Classical Marimba League International Marimba Artist Competition and 2007 PASIC International Marimba Competition, and has frequently performed as chamber percussionist at various venues and festivals, such as Percussive Arts Society International Convention, College Music Society Regional Conference, Macau Band Fair, Phoenix Experimental Arts Festival, Iannis Xenakis Festival and Atlantic Music Festival.
Ms. Chen returned to her hometown Taiwan in 2012, and has since performed over a hundred concerts with Kaohsiung City Wind Orchestra, Chiasong Wind Ensemble, Throbbing Elements Percussion Ensemble, as well as coached many prize-winning pupils and student ensembles. Since 2017, she serves as the director of Throbbing Elements Percussion Ensemble, a South Taiwan-based percussion group that wholeheartedly dedicated to promoting high-quality percussion education and performance in all levels.
